Remembering Senator Robert Byrd
July 7, 2010Though this blog focuses on presidential history, LP has decided to address the history of a different government branch by honoring the longest serving member of the legislative branch. Here are a few captions that succinctly summarize the career of Senator Robert Byrd should somebody choose to use them for a portrait or plaque in the Capitol:
Robert Byrd (1917-2010): Not exactly Daniel Webster
Robert Byrd (1917-2010): The biggest thing in West Virginia since John Denver
Robert Byrd (1917-2010): Not as racist as Strom Thurmond
We can neither confirm nor deny reports that West Virginia is considering changing it’s name, but LP highly endorses changing the name to “The Robert Byrd Memorial State.”
